How to Test Your App on an Unpublished (Draft) Theme
This guide will help you set up and test the IA CART DRAWER app on an unpublished (draft) theme. By following this, you can ensure your changes don't interfere with your live website or affect your live visitors.
Go to Shopify Admin:
From your Shopify admin dashboard, navigate to Online Store → Themes.
Duplicate Your Theme:
Find your current live theme under Current Theme.
Click on the three-dot menu (⋮) next to it and select Duplicate.
A copy of your theme will be added to your Theme Library.
Note: The duplicate theme is a safe, unpublished copy where you can test changes.
To avoid affecting your live visitors, disable the IA CART DRAWER on your main (live) theme:
Open Theme Editor:
Under Current Theme, click Customize.
Disable the App Embed:
In the theme editor, look at the left-hand side menu.
Navigate to App Embeds and locate IA CART DRAWER.
Toggle it to Disable.
Save Changes:
Click the Save button on the top-right corner of your screen.
Now that your live theme is unaffected, you can enable the IA CART DRAWER on the draft theme:
Open the Draft Theme:
In your Theme Library, find the copy of your theme you just created.
Click Customize beside the duplicated theme. This will open the theme editor.
Enable the App Embed:
On the left-hand side of the editor, go to App Embeds.
Locate IA CART DRAWER and toggle it to Enable.
Save Changes:
Click the Save button on the top-right corner of your screen.
Now it's time to test your cart drawer app on the draft theme:
Preview the Draft Theme:
Go back to Online Store → Themes in your Shopify admin.
Locate the duplicated theme in your Theme Library.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) beside it and select Preview.
Check the Design and Features:
The preview will show your draft theme.
Add products to your cart and open the cart drawer to verify the design.
Test features such as displaying products, free gifts, or any other custom elements in the cart drawer.
Important: Testing on a draft theme ensures that your live visitors aren’t affected while you tweak and test your cart drawer.
